Change the world for good rather than bad
Change the world for good rather than bad
A fast moving world initiates continuous change and adjustments. Change does not mean compromising personal values for political correctness. It simply means adjusting to new ideas and new procedures.
In many ways a Pandora's Box of change has ascended. Scientists are experimenting with new medicines and new drugs to increase physical pleasure or improve the quality of life. The entertainment complex is pushing for more adult programming. The industry is money and ratings driven. Violence and sexually oriented programming will continue to flood the airways when there is no protest or opposition.
It is a tragedy how some have allowed their lives to be shaped by the values of a few rich executives who are driven by profits and ratings. An avalanche of violence and sexual immorality is sliding down a slippery slope crushing the hopes and the dreams of the young and innocent.
Years ago minor sexual under tones were interjected into TV and movie programming such as a passionate kiss, holding hands or an intimate embrace. The airways are now flooded with blatant sexual acts, violence, drugs and alcohol.
When good people are passive and nonchalant negative things tend to happen. In the early 1980's there was an attempt to place all of the ACC basketball games on paid TV. The public outcry was so loud that the ACC officials and the paid TV executives backed off and delayed the plan. The plan failed due to a public outcry. The entertainment industry realized that change would have to be subtle and gradual. The strategy has paid off there are more ACC games on paid TV than there are on network TV. Here 2009 paid TV is a few steps away from airing all sporting events.
The scripture says "Be wise as serpents and harmless as doves." We must watch as well as pray. Television programs and talk radio host are shaping the world in which our youth and children will live. Lots of children are becoming immune to the feelings and the pain of others. When they feel personal pain they tend to take it out on others. Hurting others is communicated in many homes and it is the theme of a host of TV programs and Video games.
Young people need to grownup in a world that promotes respect for the personal space, the physical property, and the sanctity of life and the welfare of others. Youth do not need to grow up in a world that promotes violence, sexual immorality, drugs and alcohol. Young people have a host of ways of getting in trouble without the help of adults; they do not need power grabbing, money hungry adults to lead them down a path of emotional distress and physical destruction.
One of the primary duties of a given generations is to serve as role models to make the world better for the next generations. It is time for the entertainment complex, parents, ministers, teachers, athletes and other role models to evaluate the signals that are being sent to young people. The question is" Are we sending the wrong message to our youth, if so we need to pray and modify our actions to convey a positive message to the young and innocent?
Achieving the goal of sending positive, wholesome signals to young people is a major challenge in a world where there is so much negativity. The challenge begins with us; I challenge all men, women, boys and girls to act on the information shared in this article of being a positive role. One person, one step at time can make a world of difference.
